It’s been a long held belief that the 50 something year-old
Rockstone, currrently of the group VVIP is the originator of Hiplife,
but Sidney has dared to pull the trigger over what he told Showbiz was a
“distorted history” and is ready to set the records straight.
Perhaps, we have entered an era of setting records straight
concerning the true history of Ghanaian music. And Sidney’s challenge of
what is regarded as Rockstones legacy comes just a week after radio
presenter and musician, Quophi Okyeame, of defunct group, Akyeame,
engaged in a similar banter with Rockstone over Sarkodie’s History In
The Making concert at the Apollo Theatre, in which he challenged claims
that Sarkodie is the first Ghanaian to perform in New York’s iconic
amphitheatre.
In a no-holds-barred interview with Showbiz, Sidney, whose musical
journey commenced with the defunct group, Nananom, says Rockstone must
stop holding himself as the originator of Hiplife since he and other
musicians had already started a trend the Hiplife Grand Papa helped
develop further.
“Yes, the history of hiplife has been distorted and there are many
people, especially the new generation, who have been misled for many
years.
Some of us have been very quiet for long and it’s time to straighten
some of these crooked stories for the benefit of all,” Sidney told
Showbiz on Tuesday.
Giving his account of the origin of hiplife, Sidney, who together
with Jyoti and Omanhene Pozo formed the trio named, Nananom, said before
Rockstone came on the scene, there had been other artistes and groups
who had held the forte for many years.
“Before Reggie came down to Ghana, there were groups such as the
Native Funk Lords (NFL) which had Eddy Blay Jnr and myself as members
and the Taboo group.
Azigiza Jnr. and the likes of General Marcus were all doing rap music
before Reggie came down in 1994 during the annual Panafest. “It took
Reggie two years to release his Maka Maka album in 1996 which featured
Nananom’s Panyin Na Obenye bi da.
“The only good thing Reggie did was to record an album which none of
us had done and that is where the whole trouble started. “I want Reggie
to come out and tell the whole of Ghana how the name Hiplife came about.
Was he the originator?” queried Sidney.
According to the Apuskeleke hitmaker, he has no qualms with his
“senior brother and cousin” but the records must be set right for
generation yet to come to know the “untold story of Hiplife music”.
He argued that Rockstone could not be credited for inventing Hiplife
because his Maka Maka album never had any song that had the style or
semblance of Hiplife.
“The evidence is even there for all to testify. Anyone who doubts
what I’m saying can get a copy of the Maka Maka album. All the songs
were strictly rap or hiphop or ragga and not hiplife.
“Hiplife was just a term we used to brand Ghana’s kind of music and
if we say hiplife is a blend of highlife and hiphop, then Reggie can’t
take the credit he is enjoying now.
“Reggie even says that after his generation came Obrafour but there
were many groups and artistes before Obrafour even came on the scene.
After the generation of Nananom and Reggie, came Akyeame and then the
likes of Ex-Doe and Lord Kenya came. “Obrafour belonged to a different
generation and these are some of the facts being distorted today,” he
recounted.
In a chat with Showbiz yesterday morning, Wednesday, August 19,
Reggie Rockstone, the Grand Papa of Hiplife said, “I don’t know where
this is coming from but I don’t think I have ever said I invented rap
music in Ghana.
“ Yes others were already doing rap but I was the first to rap in Twi
and the first time Hiplife was coined was in my song, Tsooboi. Hiplife
can either be rapping in Twi or rapping in English over a highlife beat,
that is the definition.
“ There is so much evidence and those who want the truth can search
for it. I don’t need to prove to anyone because this is something I
worked hard for and he, Sidney, is a beneficiary.
“I feel very disappointed especially because this is coming from my own cousin who was featured on my first album.
I don’t need to trade words with him in public over something that I
had worked for all these years. Ghanaians must be the judge,” he stated.

Victoria Hammah’s father join Ghana’s presidential race
It is the political season and everyone is running for President!
Recently it was reported that Prophet Kumchacha had picked up forms to
contest for Ghana’s hot seat under his Jesus Christ Party. John Alex
Hammah, the father of Victoria Hammah is the latest to pick a
Presidential Candidate nomination form.
Mr Hammah will contest the upcoming December 7 election as an
Independent Candidate. He is a veteran Trade Unionist and Industrial and
Public Relations consultant, who says he has received calls from
Ghanaian workers, urging him to step into the race.He told Kasapa News that: “I’ve been in exile, I have suffered a lot. But now at my age though I’m old age, I’m young in thoughts. Now the workers of Ghana are suffering and the voice of labour should be heard. We helped Nkrumah to make it possible for Ghana to have independence and Trade Union Leaders have suffered some have died.”
He further revealed that he has for the most part of his life, had the ambition of leading Ghana as an effective leader, a strong desire that saw him being sentenced to death imprisonment on his birthday several decades ago.
He said: “The time has come for a leader who is courageous, patriotic and incorruptible. Ghanaians should vote for me because I understand the problems of Labour and Industry. I have negotiated with top employers since independence and so I know the problems of both employers and workers. People don’t understand the problems of workers. People are talking about providing jobs but they don’t understand workers problems. With my experience I will be the right person to be President of Ghana.”

Am ready to set the records straight, Rockstone not originator of Hiplife — Barima Sidney

Hiplife star Barima Sidney, is not the type to shy away from controversy, often producing hit songs laced with political undertones.
This time, however, he has turned the gun on veteran hiplife star, Reggie Rockstone, debunking the notion that the self-acclaimed Hiplife Grand Papa is the originator of the music genre.

Kwaw Kese Fires Kontihene
![Torgbe – Number 9 ft. Kwaw Kese [Official Video]](http://cdn-1380.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/torgbe-number-9-ft-kwaw-kese-off-300x168.jpg)
Kwaw Kese has told Kontihene to concentrate on his dying career instead of publicly throwing punches at him. The man insane in an interview with Amanda Jissih on HItz FM said Kontihene is no more relevant in today’s music so he does not want to waste his breath talking about him. He added that the “krohinkro” singer wants to ride on his fame to resurrect his career but he will not give that a chance to happen.
“If we are talking about Ghana music now, there is nowhere that Kontihene fits in. Kontihene became news ten years ago so if he comes back to be talking about me and throwing punches at me then it means he wants to use me to resurrect his career. Kontihene is dead”Kotihene in a recent interview said Kwaw Kese does not record songs with content and therefore he [kontihene] will by no means consider doing collaboration with him.
“Amanda, I’ve been performing to many crowd for the past days. We are the talked about. We are the talk of Gh now in terms of music and performances. I don’t want to resurrect his dying career. Let him die and remain in his grave.
The whole world knows Kwaw Kese is still grinding and I’m still doing big shows. I’m performing every now and then and nobody talks about that guy {Kontihene] anymore so I don’t think he should use me to resurrect his career. I beg him he should just remain calm and be where he is.”

Gyan’s Lover Grabbed
Sarah
Kwablah Sarah Kwabla, the 22-year-old university student who threatened to make
public what she described as a secretly recorded video of the sexual
intercourse she had with Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, was on Thursday
arrested and detained at the Airport Police Station in Accra, DAILY GUIDE can
confirm.
She was
charged with conspiracy to extort money but was later granted a
self-recognisance bail and asked to report on Monday. Ms Kwabla was said to
have gone to the police station in the company of her mother and with legal
representation. Sarah Kwabla; her ex-lover Ekwo Micah, a musician; and Osarfo
Anthony, a journalist, are jointly charged with conspiracy to extort money and
are likely to be processed for court early next week after the police caught
Osarfo Anthony red-handed as he tried to extort an amount of GH₵25,000 from
Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan. The Asamoah Gyan camp had lodged a complaint
of extortion against Osarfo Anthony after he reportedly contacted them and
demanded an amount of GH₵25,000 else he would publish what he said was
negative evidence against the Black Stars captain in his dealings with Sarah
Kwabla. After Osarfo’s arrest, police investigations revealed he conspired with
Sarah Kwabla, Osarfo and Ekwo before he contacted the Gyan camp with his
demands of money and threats of publication of negative stories. Ekwo Micah was
invited by the police to help in investigations into the case but he got into
further trouble when a substance suspected to be narcotics was found in his
custody. Ekwo was sent to court over possession of narcotics and was remanded
for two weeks pending further investigations. Sarah Kwabla was also invited to
help in the investigations and her statement was taken on Thursday. The Gyan
camp, after filing a complaint of extortion against Osarfo, feigned interest in
the journalist’s proposal and actually asked him to put his proposals and
demands into writing. A copy of what looks like an undertaking signed by Osarfo
during the extortion attempt and presented to the Gyan camp stated in part: ‘In
pursuance of our earlier verbal discussion with your client to stop
publications on his alleged sodomy and or rape scandal with a lady by name
Sarah Kwabla, the editorial board of GHBase.com, upon the signing of this
agreement with you, officially consents never to publish any reportage on the
said case. ‘The client [Asamoah Gyan]therefore pays the publisher [Osarfo
Anthony] an amount of GH¢25,000 with the obligation that should the site ever
do any publication on the said allegation or give out any facts or evidence on
the said case to any third party person for publication, reproduction or
duplication, your client has the unequivocal right to sue the site and its
publisher for criminal or civil tort – whichever case may be,’ the document,
signed by Osarfo Anthony on July 23, 2015, stated. Pregnancy Vanishes Though
Sarah Kwabla had stated that the sexual intercourse she had with Asamoah Gyan
in February this year was consensual and resulted in pregnancy, she popped up
at the Airport Police Station on Thursday with a flat tummy when the supposed
pregnancy was to have been about six months old. A police source said Sarah had
explained she had a miscarriage. In June, Sarah changed her position on the
alleged sexual encounter she had with Asamoah Gyan in February and told the
police she was ‘raped’ and ‘sodomised’ by the footballer. A paternity test
scheduled to have been conducted on Tuesday, June 23 to ascertain whether or
not Asamoah Gyan was responsible for the pregnancy did not come on because
Sarah Kwabla did not honour the appointment, though part-payment for the cost
of the test had been deposited at the medical facility. Sarah said she secretly
recorded her sexual encounter with the Black Stars captain in her apartment but
had decided to make it public because her relationship with the footballer was
not going the way she had envisaged. The 22-year-old said because of the
pregnancy, the Black Stars captain should get her a fully furnished apartment,
a housemaid and a monthly amount of $1,000 for postnatal care. The case was
reported first to the Odorkor Police in Accra and after it was supposedly
amicably settled, Sarah went to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit
(DOVVSU) and filed a fresh charge of rape against Gyan. The Airport Police is
handling the complaint of extortion which was said to have been captured on
video when the journalist went for the money. There are also some alleged audio
recordings that captured Sarah Kwabla, Ekwo Micah and Osarfo Anthony discussing
how the Gyans should be approached with the story.
